This was the fifth successive win for the Tigers and also the start of three home games for the side. Wingham start the second round with the match against Forster-Tuncurry next weekend before meeting Wauchope on Saturday June 16, The Hawks and the Blues both beat Wingham in the first round.

The performance against a weakened Sharks side was probably Wingham's best of the season. It was certainly their most clinical. Coach Mick Sullivan at halfback was instrumental in the performance as he constantly put ball carriers into space. The game was only three minutes old when Sullivan sent a perfectly timed ball to second rower Tim Watson, who raced through a gap and over the line for the first try of the game. Danny Russell was spot on with the conversion and the Tigers were on their way.

Wingham kept piling on the misery for the Sharks and by halftime the contest was as good as over with the Tigers leading 28-0. Sullivan said later he was particularly pleased with his side's defence in the opening half, while acknowledging the Sharks weren't at full strength.

While Wingham's attack was sharp they were certainly aided by some ordinary Port Macquarie defence. This was summed up when Matt Bridge scored from a scrum when after he bolted into space after being given too much room. Bridge then raced away from would-be tacklers. This was Bridge's 10^th try of the season. However, it wasn't an entirely happy day for the livewire custodian, as he ended the game in the sin bin.

Rookie winger Jarrod Gibson was given his second game in first grade and handled the job with aplomb, scoring a try in the first half rout. Gibson was replacing Lachlan Williams, who was unavailable. Both are still eligible for under 18s.

The second half was more of the same for Wingham with their forwards, again led by lock Brendan Butler Watson, Jake Mullen and Nick Beacham punching through the defensive line. Russell at five-eighth was also strong while centre Kurt Lewis was a menace for the Port defence.

Mullen scored the best individual try of the second stanza when he found space near halfway and raced the 50 metres to cross, showing surprising speed.

Port managed to break their duck with a try to Kyle Ellison and a goal to Joel Antilla. Ellison was about their best player.
