The walking buses departed from different places around Old Bar and picked up students along the way.
When students arrived at school they were greeted with a fresh piece of fruit and a high five for their effort.
It is the first time OBPS has participated in Walk Safely to School Day, and although we had high hopes for the day, it was even more successful than we had expected. Well over 150 students participated.
Walk Safely to School Day is all about helping kids learn about safety around roads, having a healthy, active lifestyle and finding ways to be friendly to the environment.
Student wellbeing leaders, Ava Brudar and Toby Marteene helped organise the event and were so excited by the great response.
Ava said "Everyone was having such a great time. We were so impressed with the large turnout of children, parents and even some furry friends."
Toby was amazed that so many people walked from as far as Wallabi Point.
Toby said that "as the student wellbeing leaders, it is important for us to encourage students to have a healthy and active lifestyle."
Ava and Toby were both so thankful to everyone who got involved.
Deputy principal, Ms Francoise Dupen, said that "it was really wonderful to see so many of our children walk safely to school... the children arrived with enormous smiles on their faces and gladly received their apples. Children's safety is our number one priority and what could be better than having fun, talking to friends and getting fit on your way to school."
The initiative received excellent feedback from students, parents and staff - we hope to make this a regular event on our school calendar. As Ms Dupen said "walking safely to school day should be every day."
