"We had people coming through continuously from start to finish," station commander Peter Willard said.
Demonstrations were held throughout the day and Peter said they had "very positive reactions to all of them."
As well as the usual fire extinguisher demonstrations, and hydraulic rescue equipment demonstrations, the firies also demonstrated the "mayday drag" how firefighters are rescued when they are down and their outer layer of clothing removed so first aid can be quickly applied.
Open Day is always a big hit with the kids.
"The highlight of the day is always the big red truck. Kids love climbing on the big red truck and having a go with the fire hose. It's hard to beat," Peter said.
Although money was not being raised by the firies, some people elected to give a gold coin donation for the free sausage sandwiches.
"All money that was donated will be donated to the Firefighters' Stair Climb for Motor Neurone Disease," Peter said.
