Fortunes and the lead swung between both teams, the Breakers and Mustangs evenly starting with four points with 25 minutes left of the first half at Port Macquarie Regional Stadium on May 12.
A number of injuries plagued the Breakers in the first half before they were able to race into an 8-4 lead at halftime.
There were tries to Jared Robbins, Dylan Hemsley and Mustangs' Chris Piper at the break, both teams keen to come off the field.
Scores were again leveled with 26 minutes to go in the second half, 8-8 and an intercept by Mustangs' Owen Blair led to a full length field chase.
Owen delivered the try and set up Macleay Valley for the win, 14-8.
Further damage was inflicted against the Breakers with a field goal by Stephan Blair adding to the final lead of 15-8, with under four minutes to go.
Mustangs coach Russell Lardner said the match was a true battle and the field goal a carefully planned maneuver.
"It was a battle, we just kept on pushing and pushing for each other and to take the win," he said.
"It was great to get that win for the boys because we all believe in each other and give each other confidence.
"Everything was all great, the forwards have done their job busting it straight up middle and we have got the best forward pack in the comp.
"We have got the best forward pack in the comp."

"The intercept was great, once one of the Blair boys get a break into open space it's hard to track them down.
"Then I came off the bench with ten minutes to go and that was the plan for me to give to my half, Stephan Blair to put that one point extra over just to down-hearten them."
