This was due in a large part to the support of local businesses and the dedicated help of long serving club members, including Lyn and Joe Dimech, Evelyn Young, Maree Lewis, Pauline and Fritz Wespi and John Talbot.
Particular mention goes to green keeper Phillip Sage, who committed himself to preparing the lawns to a professional standard. The event progressed smoothly due to the organisational skills of Janine Crellin and Lorna Butcher, along with other committee members despite the reluctant sudden withdrawal of tournament manager, Tom Akre, due to ill health.
One player from the Macquarie City (a team of six), Pat Forster is learning the game and honing her skills. Max Gleeson is back again as are Margaret and Roy Corse all from Smithtown club. Roy is hoping to better his performance and claim first prize this year.
Di Milne from Nowra keeps her cool by crotcheting squares when off court. A dinner was held at a local club during the tournament which was well attended. There were 36 competitors involved in double and single competitions. Competitors close by are travelled each day but those from further afield stayed in local motels, houses and caravan parks.
The Wild Fig is an annual event and player have already nominated for next year.
