For the 11th year in a row, Gloucester Rotary Club has hosted it's biggest annual fundraising event which combines a motorcycle expo with one of Heaven Vintage Motorcross group's biggest competitions on its calendar; the Gloucester TT. According to Gloucester Rotarian Peter Markey the numbers of people through the gates was down from last year, but the number of racers was up.
"It rained Friday night and Saturday morning which has affected how many riders we had attend the expo," Peter said. "But Heaven had to capped it competitor numbers at 335. It's a competition that just keeps growing."
Peter explained that a few years ago there were only around 200 riders, but the event keeps attracting more, causing race organisers to cap the numbers. Leading up to the event, Ditchfield Contracting trucked in around 200 tonnes of dirt for the construction of the purpose built, Heaven VMX designed track. A track, that according to Peter, was quite impressive.
"The riders said it was the best track ever."
He said the VMX riders are a fascinating group of people who love their vintage bikes.
"They restore them then thrash them around the track," Peter laughed.
As for the expo side of things, it was all about the exhibitors.
"Without the expo, we don't have a show," he said.
