Seniors are invited to learn more about using smart devices and to find out more about the federally funded Be Connected program at an event in Taree on Tuesday, May 7.
YourLink and MidCoast Libraries will be holding a free Tea and Be Connected event at Club Taree on this date from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
YourLink has run a number of these events across NSW in areas including Orange, Sydney, Central Coast and Forster, where more than 40 people attended. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive with 96 per cent indicating they would recommend to friends and family, and 96 per cent would attend another event.
The Be Connected program is an Australia wide initiative empowering all Australians to thrive in a digital world and is funded by the Australian Federal Government. The program has free online learning resources as well as a network of community partners who offer support to develop your digital skills and confidence.
According to the Australian Digital Inclusion Index (ADII), people 65 years and older are Australia's least digitally included age group.
As the authors of the report state, "The goal of digital inclusion is to enable everyone to access and use digital technologies effectively. It goes beyond simply owning a computer or having access to a smartphone. Social and economic participation lies at the heart of digital inclusion: using online and mobile technologies to improve skills, enhance quality of life, educate, and promote wellbeing and sustainable development across the whole of society."
Seniors are encouraged to bring their iPad or smart device to this event to learn about apps, personalising the device and making it easier to use, as well as the Be Connected program.
To reserve your place for this free event, contact YourLink on 0448 160 238 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
