After the tragic attack on the mosques in Christchurch on March 15, the Kiwiquilters group in New Zealand put out a call asking for assistance to create special heart themed quilts for the families of the victims of the shooting.
This call went viral and quilts are being sent from USA, Canada, Malaysia, England, Ireland, Qatar, Dubai, Scotland, Cambodia, Indonesia, South Korea and Australia.
The Harrington Piecers Quilting Group at Harrington, including former Kiwi Claire Wood, quickly took up the challenge and in no time had four quilts plus extra heart blocks ready to send off to New Zealand.
The original Kiwiquilters goal was for 100 quilts but with the growing response it is hoped that the program will be extended to include first responders, emergency services personal and those people who will continue to serve the Muslim community as it heals from this tragic event.
