The sitting National Party candidate, Stephen Bromhead, severely dampened his chances of re-election when he failed to support the greater majority of voters who did not want the former Great Lakes Council to merge with Taree and Gloucester Councils. Instead, he simply toed the party-line.
And what a bloody fiasco the merger has turned out to be with a host of unanswered questions from the new council surrounding the Masters mess for starters.
Strange that Mr Bromhead is now actively supporting cries for a public hospital in Tuncurry or Forster. I would wager London to a brick that a public hospital will not be built in Tuncurry or Forster in the foreseeable future and residents who think otherwise have no understanding of the guidelines for such an undertaking or the amount of money required.
My view is that Mr Bromhead is simply playing politics in an attempt to defuse the flack he will experience for supporting the unwanted Council merger.
Further, how can voters be assured the Country Labor candidate will be an improvement? Aren't they all tarred with the same brush?
