I have been amazed as to intensity of the anti-Masters debate! When is someone going to put the case for an alternate point of view so that us ‘street punters’ can make an informed decision?

As a long term resident I can remember when Taree was a vibrant prosperous city with two functioning dairy factories, several saw mills, a heavy industry manufacturing facility, a Speedo and Brylite factories and many other flourishing enterprises. What has gone wrong?
I have been in despair as this has come to pass.
When our family returns home after a trip away and we top the ‘Four Mile’, my wife and I would often comment using a quoted from the Bible “I have seen the Promised Land”. The Biripi people have celebrated this experience for thousands of years .
Another colleague recall when Taree was colloquially known as the capital of the Mid North Coast.
Why should this not be the case today?
We have all the essential infrastructure in roads, rail, water, land, an airport, power, labour, medical and retail services in an optimal climate.
Amalgamation has prompted me to reflect on the positives of our MidCoast Council area and I am selfish enough to say it’s time for Taree to ‘have its day’ again and we should celebrate the potential a centralised administration can generate.
Where are the entrepreneurs, the visionaries and the dreamers – we need people with the youthful enthusiasm and vision to champion the cause of a ‘greater Taree’ as the capital of our Mid Coast Region.
We need people like the Stebers, Browns, Heycocks, Loftuses, Matusznys, Tickles, Emberys, Stacks and others to facilitate enterprises like Stebercraft, Bayview Seafoods, Manning Valley Eggs, Logan Leigh Benchtops and others.
We could become a centre for excellence and research with a medical campus integrated into our two hospitals. We could facilitate a conservatorium of performing arts drawing from our eisteddfod and arts council.
Maybe we could invite foreign capital to build a high-tech dairy factory, or an aero-space facility at our airport or Nippon Meat to set up a small-goods factory in association with Wingham Abattoirs.
I am of the opinion it’s time we centred our focus on working together, promoting our Mid Coast region as a growth centre of the future. Let us become ‘Masters’ of our own destiny by working together. Let us begin by centralising our administration on the Biripi Way.
