Update: March 11, 2019
On Saturday, March 9 a storm damaged the Manning River Rowing Club, taking off the roof. For this reason, the Manning Indoor Mara-row-a-thon will now not be taking place at the Rowing Club on March 22.

Helen Mitchell is attempting to find an alternative venue to hold the event on the original date. If a venue can't be found the Mara-row-a-thon will be postponed until a later date.
In the meantime, if you wish to donate online for Helen to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation's Outback Trek for Research: Larapinta 2019, visit nbcf-outback-2019.everydayhero.com/au/Helen-mitchell. Her goal is $8500, and she has currently raised $4450.48
Trekking and rowing to raise funds for research
Helen Mitchell wants to make a difference.
She will be part of a team trekking sections of the Larapinta Trail West McDonald Ranges near Alice Springs for the NBCF's (National Breast Cancer Foundation) Outback Trek for Research: Larapinta 2019.
"I know people who have had breast cancer and have fought it," Helen said.
"The reason I've taken on this challenge is not only to challenge myself, but to raise awareness of breast cancer and how it impacts so many people's lives.
"Currently, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and one in 700 men. Fifty new cases are diagnosed every day. Eight women die every day from breast cancer - it could be me, your sisters, wives, daughters or friends - that's eight to many! Helen said.
To take part in the Trek for Research each participant must first raise funds.
To help Helen reach her target, the inaugural Manning Indoor Mara-row-a-thon is being held on Friday, March 22 upstairs in the Manning River Rowing Club in Endeavour Park, Taree.
You can choose to sponsor a participant, or take part yourself. There is no entry fee, but to take part you must have sponsors. Participants will row in 500 metre sections until the marathon is completed (42 kilometres).
Sponsors are also invited to attend the mara-row-athon.
"Come along, cheer us on and enjoy a free barbecue with beer, wine and soft drinks," Helen said.
A raffle is also being held with the first prize being two three-day passes for the 2019 Wingham Akoostik Music Festival and accommodation discounts at the Wingham Golf Club Motel. Other major prizes include a $500 voucher for teeth whitening from Sundial Dental in Taree and a water filter from Reece Plumbing. Tickets are available from Mark Crisp at Reece Plumbing, Manning Florist, and Cheryl at Taree Dental Care.
If you wish to sponsor Helen in her endeavour, you can drop sponsorship money into her personally at Manning Florist at Shop 4, The Clarence Centre, Wynter Street Taree, or Hugh McLeod at the Manning River Rowing Club.
