The order in which candidates for the Myall Lakes will appear on the local ballot paper was decided on Thursday, March 7. Taking place at 10am in all 93 electoral districts around the State, the Legislative Assembly ballot draw was held locally at the old Commonwealth Bank building in Wharf Street, Forster, which will serve as the Myall Lakes election office over the next few weeks.

Six candidates will stand for election in the local area, with four of them on hand to witness the outcome of the ballot draw.

Following Helen Elliott on the ballot paper will Quentin Bye of the Sustainable Australia Party, David Keegan of Country Labor, independent Paul Sandilands, Stephen Bromhead of the Nationals, and Eleanor Spence of the Greens. 

Asked afterwards if she was worried about her name appearing last on the ballot paper, Mrs Spence said it was of little consequence.

"The way they do it is very fair," she said. "I'm not overly concerned."

Dr Keegan agreed that where a candidate ended up on the ballot paper had very little effect on the overall outcome.

"If it's a donkey vote it might make a slight difference," he said. "But the most important thing is educating people about how to vote."

The New South Wales election will take place on March 23.
