During the year she stayed with three different families and attended a school that was 500 years old with ballrooms, chandeliers and grand pianos. There were nineteen students in her class. School holidays in Denmark occur from May until September and during this time Bailee was able to travel extensively in Europe visiting England and 10 European countries.
She also attended a get together for exchange students in Holbaek near Copenhagen with 135 students from other countries. At this gathering Bailee told us she had to dress as something representing her country. She dressed as a convict!
During her stay in Denmark Bailee was able to learn to speak Danish with the help of her host families.
Bailee has been an excellent ambassador for our Rotary Club, the Manning Valley, and Australia.
Bailee was impressed with the keen attitude of students in Denmark and commented that although discipline was not strict students were well behaved and keen to learn.
Bailee commented that weather was cold, not getting above 15 degrees and it rained a lot. However, she was able to go on a six day sailing trip around Denmark stopping at various little towns along the way. She was learned to sail and won the Best Sailor award. During holidays she went swimming, and the water was in the minus degrees!
Everyone at Rotary was impressed with Bailee’s presentation and manner. She handled herself very well.
Bailee’s grandfather, Herb Beer thanked Bailee for her presentation.
Rotary Club of Taree has been involved in the Youth Exchange program since 1970 and has sent students to many countries and received students back from these countries. Countries include South Africa, England, the USA and Canada, as well Japan, Thailand and South Korea.
