Monday night’s top seed, Matt Argall got through the first round of the finals of the Old Bar squash competition with a walkover when his opponent was called away at the last moment. Argall then took on visitor Alex Steinkamp, who clearly showed this was not his first game of squash. Alex defeated the competition favourite in three straight.

Spectators would like to see a lot more of Steinkamp. All Monday players had been divided into groups according to the level they finished in the rounds. Darryl Moscatt, the second seed in the top group, started well with a 9-7 fifth game win over Larissa Collins.
Second level fourth seed Matt Donoghue defeated top seed Wayne Unger in five while third seed Barry Ruprecht also got through with a three game win. Grahame Nash and Peter Cubbin, level three’s top two, also recorded wins. James Smith and Darryl Moscatt, last week’s co-leaders in Thursday night’s top grade, had very different results this week. Moscatt scored a three straight win over Leigh Halloran while Smith went down in three to Josh Robards. This leaves Moscatt as the top seed for the first of the finals.
Smith will start at number two, Robards at number three while Steve Malouf comes in at four. In second division, front runner Wayne Unger defeated Barry Ruprecht 3-1 to earn top seeding with Michelle McGillivray at number two, Ruprecht at three and Gary Smith at four. Lyndon Lock is third grade’s top seed with Erin McFarlane at two, Todd McFarlane at three and Toni Vause at number four. New competitions start on March 4 and 7, contact 6553 7401.
