Some hail at Old Bar
A thunderstorm lasting some two hours in Old Bar produced a small amount of cherry tomato sized hail for a very short time.
Little or no damage would have occurred.
It was also accompanied by some welcome heavy rain, with 11mm being recorded. Following on from the approximately 20mm already received this month, it is good news for the garden and lawn, especially with water restrictions having commenced last Monday.
RSL AGM next Tuesday
Members of the Old Bar Beach RSL Sub-branch are reminded that the first meeting for 2019 will be the annual general meeting on Tuesday, February 19 at 2pm at Club Old Bar.
This is, of course, a most important meeting as election of office bearers for the coming year will take place. Make it a point to be there.
There will also be a monthly meeting held in conjunction with the AGM and it is time to start preparations for Anzac Day. Like many sub-branches, Old Bar is facing uncertainty and difficult times ahead as we discuss the model that we might adopt under a new constitution.
Craft at Old Bar
On Wednesday, February 20 enjoy making Ruth’s cute little dolly which can be worn as a brooch, used as an ornament or decoration, or perhaps given to your favourite little girl to love. Requirements include a small piece of patterned fabric, smaller piece of white fabric, coloured seed beads for hair and a variety of other larger beads to match patterned fabric, cotton, beading needle, brooch pin if wanted.
Further information is available from 6553 2500 or 0415 785 608.
World Day of Prayer 2018
The annual World Day of Prayer will be celebrated in hundreds of countries around the globe and Old Bar will again be part of it.
Being an ecumenical event, Christians of all denominations come together on this occasion.
Everyone is invited to attend the service at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Hall Street at 7.30pm on Friday, March 1.
Women of Slovenia, one of the smallest and youngest countries in Europe, have prepared this year's service and they encourage us to reflect on the barriers they have faced since the end of World War II when their country was a part of Yugoslavia, a Marxist socialist republic. They share the challenges they have met and the hopes they have for the future.
This year, the Old Bar service will be hosted by the Catholic congregation, with participation by the Anglican, Uniting, Presbyterian and Beachside communities.
