“Our club certainly enjoyed putting the day on and we’d be happy to have them back next season,’’ Old Bar women’s boat crew sweep Ben Stevenson said.
“But a decision won’t be made until the annual meeting of the series. There was a bit of gravel on the beach and I know a few of the crews were worried about damaging the boats, so we’ll just have to wait and see.’’
This was the second year the club has held a round of the series. Numbers were slightly down on usual, due, Stevenson said, to a clash with other events.
He said conditions were favourable.
“There wasn't much swell, but we didn’t get the strong nor-east winds, which was good,’’ Stevenson explained.
As expected Old Bar’s women’s crew finished behind series front runners Woolgoolga and Kempsey-Crescent Head.
“Apart from one race there wasn’t much between us,’’ Stevenson said.
Forster and Cape Hawke were represented in the men’s and women’s masters races.
Stevenson said Old Bar will now contest the Australian Surf Rowers League event in Sydney in March and the Australian championships on the Gold Coast. There are also two rounds of the North Coast series remaining.
