In the past two years Steber have employed a total of eight apprentices, as well as six skilled staff to keep pace with government, commercial and recreational boat builds.
“It’s pleasing that we are in a position to boost our workforce and in particular offer the youth of the Manning an exciting career opportunity,” general manager, Alan Steber said.
“We have recently doubled the size of our engineering department and completed a tech upgrade to maximise efficiencies in our production cycle.
“Currently we have 13 vessels either on order or in production and all are being constructed to the new Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s survey code,” Mr Steber said.
Projects include: five Australian Navy support vessels, Marine Rescue vessels for Victoria, Hayman Island character boat, commercial fishing vessel and fisheries research vessel for the government of Mauritius, which at 61ft, will be the largest yet constructed by Steber.
