The pampered weather box at the Taree Airport may be saying 33 degrees Celsius for today`s maximum, but out in the real world where most of us have to venture without any sheltered pampered box, my recording indoor/outdoor digital thermometer states without any reservations that the heat of the direct sunlight today (December 31) for example is 47.9C.

Just think of the birds, animals, motor vehicles, humans etc who have to be exposed to this kind of heat for perhaps all day without shade of any kind.
I well remember when I attended Central Lansdowne Public School, some of us pupils had a four mile, six hills hot dry dusty road to negotiate on a pushbike in weather like this with nowhere to get a drink of water, until this fellow made it up which was the steepest hill of them all, to the house.
This kind of heat has been around for many, many decades and is not something new.
