For the past 25 years Margaret George has been helping ladies get the right fit for the right price at her store, Margaret’s Underfashions.
When she first opened she was in a small store in the Pulteney Arcade with just one other staff member but she quickly outgrew the space and expanded at a new premises just three years after opening.
The store has always been in the Pulteney Arcade where they operate from today with Margaret running the store with three part-time employees.
With more than 80 per cent of ladies wearing the wrong bra size, the best part of the job for Margaret is helping her customers.
“I enjoy looking after people and it is really rewarding,” Margaret said.
“A lot of people need help these days especially when it comes to buying the right bra.”
No matter who walks through the doors the staff at Margaret’s Underfashions give their undivided attention to ensure every lady walks out happy.
“We’ve got a lot of regular customers and we get so much business from word of mouth,” Margaret said.
That customer service extends beyond the physical store with many customers from out of town calling the store to put orders in which are posted out to them.
When it comes to the price Margaret keeps them as low as possible.
“We’re the same price as the major stores, sometimes cheaper,” she said.
“We’re not expensive, everything comes priced and we sell to that price. We have good quality and keep all the well-known brands.”
It’s that excellent customer service, good quality and a competitive price which has seen Margaret’s Underfashions succeed over the past 25 years. This success has been filtered back into the local community through donations and sponsorship.
“I get my business local and I like to support local,” Margaret said.
“I support the local golf club, sponsor the golf day and donate to any cancer fundraisers.”
It’s this dedication to the local community which sets local businesses like Margaret’s Underfashions apart and makes them extremely worthy of your support not just over the Christmas period but all year.
