Susan will be presenting seven free cyber safety sessions locally, hosted by council in partnership with Mission Australia.
Four sessions will be conducted at selected primary and high schools, while two are open to parents and carers from across the MidCoast region.
A half day professional development session for educators and people working with children and young people will also be offered.
While the primary and high school sessions will be run in conjunction with local schools, parents and carers can join public sessions at Club Forster on November 27, and Club Taree on November 29. A professional development session for educators and community workers is planned for Taree, earlier in the day on November 29.
RSVPs to the parent/carer sessions, and the professional training, are essential. Visit www.midcoast.nsw.gov.au/youthevents for information and to find the link to book.
These sessions provide a great opportunity to understand and address cyber safety issues such as bullying, photo sharing and privacy protection.
Susan was a member of the Victorian Police Force for 27 years where she was the first Victorian police officer appointed to a position involving cyber safety and young people. She has since travelled around the world expanding her knowledge and delivering talks to international conferences on cyber safety.
Children now grow up with the digital world being a huge part of their lives and these sessions will help to ensure that their online experience is as positive and safe as possible, while parents and carers will gain their own understanding of cyber safety and the role they play in supporting children and teenagers through this experience.
