The radio operator, Kevin Bailey along with our unit commander, Rebecca Brown, immediately took the baby and placed it in a sitting position on a nearby table. Kevin massaged the baby’s back and while Rebecca rang for an ambulance. The baby then started breathing again.
Kevin and Rebecca don’t believe that they did anything exceptional but they did something, which is better than doing nothing, so they deserve congratulations for their action so good on them.
We have a new addition to our boat crew with Peter Ward being successful with his assessment. His wife, Betty, is also now a full member and is assisting our treasurer.
We also have three more new members training as boat crew and four more people training as radio operators and with Christmas approaching, we will need all we can get.
Due to changes in radio procedure for logging on we are getting far less people using this facility and so we are asking fishermen to tell us what they think of these changes. We understand that this system is not working but we have to do what we are told by head office, but if we receive complaints then we can forward them on, so tell us what you think!
And a reminder that if you are out on the water after 18:00 (6pm) then to log off you must call on VHF ch16 or the base phone number 6556 1564 and the duty officer will log you off. Please do not call on any other radio channel or phone number as ch16 and our base phone are the only contacts monitored overnight
We have been given a State Government grant to purchase two new vehicles for our base and to put solar power on our shed roof, and towards the end of this financial year we are supposed to receive a new boat for the river, incurring a debt to us of one third of the total cost, so our fund raising has to continue.
We have a raffle going at IGA Harrington and we sold some tickets at Aldi Taree but only two days per week for the four weeks. We cannot sell anymore there until their renovations are completed in December.
The raffle will be drawn at our New Year’s Day market.
Anyone wishing to have a stall at our market should contact the base in person or phone 6556 1564. As stated earlier the market will be held on New Year’s Day at John Oxley Reserve and all stall holders must have insurance.
Boat licence testing is available at the base on the second Tuesday of each month. You must call or phone in to register for the test. As the government is not printing anymore rule books, it is all on computer only however when you call at the base to get your logbook then the email address is in that.
