Cousins, Marianne Enright from Lansdowne and Lyn Incoll from Old Bar operate the business, having both recently relocated from the Central Coast.
The official opening was last Friday evening but the shop had been trading for a short time prior to that.
The business is focussing on unique women’s clothing as well as homewares from Morocco, Turkey and Mexico. The aim is not to stock items in direct competition with other Old Bar businesses.
Lyn and Marianne are encouraging locals to sell their products on consignment through the store and they already have craft, towels, other linen, gemstones and honey from local sources on display.
New push for sand dredging
President of the Old Bar Beach Sand Replenishment Group, Elaine Pearce, has written to the Minister for the Environment, Gabrielle Upton, urging consideration be given to dredging Farquhar Inlet and pumping the sand onto Old Bar beach.
It was pointed out that in just one night in June 2011, some 13 metres of dune was lost in front of the Old Bar Public School.
Elaine said the State government has invested considerable funds in very recent years on new buildings and more works are currently underway.
The threat to the school property is regarded as real if more big seas eat away the small amount of littoral rainforest between the school and the ocean, she said.
“The Worley Parsons report of 2010 gave sand dredging as one option and the 2015 Angus Jackson plan recommended this action. In 2010 it was estimated there was 30,000 cubic metres of sand that could be used to nourish Old Bar beach. Local surveyor, Mark Searles now estimates there could be something in the order of one million cubic metres.”
Mrs Pearce also provided thanks for the State government funding that allowed sand scraping to be successfully completed and included the former Environment Minister, Rob Stokes in those thanks.
Get Apple trained for the holidays
The CTC @ Old Bar has always been able to provide training on a range of technology subjects but has struggled to offer training on iPads or iPhones. Now that has changed.
One of our priceless volunteers, Sue Lathwell is happy to provide training to anyone on a one on one basis.
So why not get yourself up to speed for the holidays? For a very moderate cost, this can be done at the CTC or in your home if necessary. To obtain training on Apple devices, or any other technology subject, please call in at the CTC at 5/45 Old Bar Road or phone 6553 6677 to make an appointment.
Remembrance Day at Old Bar
The Old Bar Beach RSL Sub-branch once again hosted a Remembrance Day service at Club Old Bar last Sunday. Being on a Sunday, it received more public support than is normal when it is on a weekday.
Sub-branch president, Geoff Gillard gave a short address on the history of the armistice and chaplain, Fr Peter Tinney led in prayers and spoke of the need for us to maintain the legacy handed down to us.
