A bumper crowd packed into Taree’s Bushland Drive track for the Manning Valley Race Club’s meeting on Melbourne Cup day.
Regarded as one of the most sought after social events of the year, race-goers were dressed to the nines.
The congregation held its collective breath as Wingham born jockey Corey Brown looked for back-to-back Melbourne Cup wins.
It wasn’t to be his day.
He finished 16th on Magic Circle behind winner Cross Counter.
At the Taree track, trainer Steve Brewer had his first win at Taree when four-year-old gelding Our Dragon won the HMM Accountants Maiden Plate over 1600 metres.
The former Hawesbury trainer told Manning River Times horse racing correspondent Doug Ryan the win was owed by the gelding which had overcome some serious injury setbacks.
