Essential Energy crews are working to restore power as soon as possible to more than 563 households.
Just after the Manning community gathered to watch the Melbourne Cup, strong lightning, wind and rain lashed the east coast.
Traffic was disrupted in the vicinity of Wingham Road and Kanangra Drive as fallen trees brought down powerlines.
Motorists were diverted to allow for the debris to be removed.
More than 7000 households in Taree, Lansdowne, Coopernook and surrounding areas were left without power for several hours.
Crews worked late into the night to secure sites and isolate numerous problems while restoring power progressively to the majority of households.
NSW State Emergency Service Taree City attended to 24 requests for assistance.
Their tasks included removing fallen trees and assessing roof damage.
Crews also helped remove a trampoline from a Chatham property.
The unit will be joined by other crews today, November 7, to attend to five properties.
Residents are advised to stay at least eight metres away from fallen or damaged powerlines and call Essential Energy on 13 20 80 to lodge a report.
