Independent Paul Sandilands has announced his candidacy for the 2019 election.
“I know about my area and I care about my area,” Mr Sandilands said.
“This is my home and I love it.”
Mr Sandilands has served the Manning and Great Lakes area as a midwife.
“I’ve cared for people across the community in Bulahdelah, Forster, Wingham and Taree,” he said.
“I’ve spent four decades looking after people.”
If elected, Mr Sandilands says he would look to ensure Manning Hospital is “well-equipped as a trauma hospital for serious accidents and illnesses.”
He would also push for a form of emergency after-hours care in the Great Lakes.
With his medical experience, Mr Sandilands is driven for improved nurse-to-patient ratios in hospitals. He said this concept must be relayed to aged care with mandated ratios for staff to patients.
Another key point would be to sustain the dairy farming industry through adequate profitability for farmers, he said. The same applies for the fishing industry.
Mr Sandilands ran as an independent for the election of the inaugural MidCoast Council.
For any inquiries or questions, Mr Sandilands can be contacted via his Facebook page.
Other candidates for the Myall Lakes election are the sitting MP The Nationals’ Stephen Bromhead and Country Labor candidate Dr David Keegan.
