Hosted by Hunter Local Land Services in partnership with Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA), the forum will be held on Thursday, November 8 and will bring together the region’s cattle producers to hear from industry experts about smarter beef production in the future.
“It’s been an incredibly challenging period with the drought forcing hard sales of breeding stock and progeny, and driving up the price and availability of feed,” Hunter Local Land Services agricultural production and protection manager, Andrew Hodgson said.
“It has also affected confidence in the local market and Hunter Local Land Services wants to help producers and their families make strong, clear plans for their future farm businesses.
“The drought has had a devastating impact for many farming families, and a lot of people are asking what to do next.
“We are bringing together industry experts, agricultural technology entrepreneurs, government agencies and support services, plus trade providers for animal health, livestock management and handling and feed suppliers, to have an honest discussion about building the future of the Hunter beef industry, and how we can all work together beyond this drought.
“The Hunter is a renowned cattle producing region, and while times are tough, they will get better and we have a unique opportunity to really boost the quality of cattle grown in our area moving forward, but also prepare ourselves for difficult times in the future.”
The free event will include discussions on issues including eating quality and compliance, marketing, options for Australian beef in the next 20 years, animal health and producer case studies.
There also will be a range of leading agricultural products and services on display, including new technologies designed to make life easier for farmers and improve livestock handling.
The event will run from 9am-4.30pm, with morning tea and lunch included.
