The funding will allow for the replacement of the dilapidated cattle pavilions with a multipurpose event arena, extension to the wool and sheep shed, new amenities block with toilets and showers, tea room verandah and covered walkway and expansion to the lapidary club’s gem and mineral museum.
Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead joined with showground trust president Grant Coleman and user groups make the announcement. MidCoast Council mayor also attended.
Mr Bromhead said this funding is a “game changer” for the showground and the Manning Valley.
Wingham Showground is home to 17 organisations and hosts a number of events and festivals throughout the year including the Wingham Show, first held in 1885, the summertime rodeo and camp drafts, Wingham AkoostiK Festival and Manning Valley Beef Week.
“The showground holds a special place in the heart of the community and the events held here are major economic drivers for the Upper Manning and local small business,” Mr Bromhead said.
“I am so proud to make this announcement, it’s taken hard work and tough decisions to turn NSW around but our strong economic management means we can now invest in improving these facilities for the next generation.”
Funding for the upgrades was secured under Stronger Country Communities as part of the Regional Growth Fund and the Crown Reserves Improvement Fund.
