MidCoast Council’s general manager, Adrian Panuccio was called on to officially opened the exhibition featuring the work of Yvette and Peter Hugill and Jane Hosking.
Yvette and Peter Hugill are well known to the art gallery and its regular visitors, and their new collaborative exhibition 'Cohesive' is a celebration of colour, pattern and style that melds Yvette's painting with Peter's ceramics.
In Jane Hosking’s exhibit 'Terror Australis', she uses the sculpture and installation to investigate contemporary Australian cultural and environmental issues.
This body of work is a 'future museum' and with humour, a little irreverence and some outrage, Jane speculates on what might be displayed in our museums and history books in a hundred years.
All three artists have been working for the past two years to present their exhibition. The artists also took part in a special exhibition earlier this year, in conjunction with the Manning River Times, entitled Studio Spaces. A series of studios, photos and videos took readers behind the scenes to see local artists in their own creative spaces and studios to see how they work.
"Supporting regional professional artists is a priority for the gallery and I am excited to launch the latest exhibitions 'Cohesive' and 'Terror Australis'. The new series of work by Yvette and Peter Hugill in 'Cohesive' and Jane Hosking in 'Terror Australis' are not to be missed, and are sure to stimulate the senses and even challenge your way of thinking," says Manning Regional Art Gallery director Rachel Piercy.
The exhibition continues until Sunday, November 25. The gallery in Macquarie Street, Taree is open Wednesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm and Sunday 1pm to 4pm.
