And now he has a shiny new medal to prove it.
At the 2018 Taree Show, the veteran ring announcer was awarded a Royal Agricultural Society of NSW medal for distinguished service for long standing volunteers of show societies.
“It was an absolute surprise,” Bruce said
“To think they had a lady come up from Sydney to present the medal to me was mind-blowing.”
Bruce has been involved with the Taree, Wingham and Nabiac shows as well as Gloucester Show on occasion.
“It’s been my whole life, I’ve been involved with agriculture since the word go.
“I’ve been a stock and station agent as well as an auctioneer so agriculture is a big part of my life.
“You’ve got to give back to the community that gives so much to you.
“It’s the most satisfying occupation you can be in,” Bruce said.
Bruce had a chat to Manning River Times between sessions at last year’s Taree Show.
Bruce thanked the Taree Show committee for nominating him for the award and those who helped guide his career in the industry.
He strongly encouraged anyone interested in taking up ring announcing or volunteering in agriculture to do so.
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree as his son Stephen is involved with livestock locally.
Manning River Agriculture and Horticultural Society Taree president Milton Johnston said Bruce has been a long standing asset to agriculture in the area.
It's the most satisfying occupation you can be in.
- Bruce Moy, Taree Show ring announcer
“He’s given up his time and effort to be the main ring announcer.
“He’s passionate about agricultural shows and the impact it has on the local community and is always there to lend a hand when we need help.
“He’s had a huge impact as the voice of the Taree Show,” Milton said.
Milton hoped Bruce will continue in the role - at least until he reaches a key milestone.
“I hope he’ll be back next year, I told him he had to get to 50 years before he retires,” Milton laughed.
