For the first time, Gooch Agencies was joined by Bowe and Lidbury and Ray White Rural for the sale after MidCoast Council announced a 12 month trial open store sale fortnightly at the saleyards.
Bowe and Lidbury’s Peter Markey said the sale was a historic occasion.
“We’ve been waiting five years to get into the saleyards,” Mr Markey said. “It’s the biggest crowd we’ve seen in Gloucester for a while.”
Auctioneer Michael Easey said the fortnightly sale is a cornerstone of the Gloucester community.
“The saleyards are about social interaction and is a great community asset,” Mr Easey said.
Ray White Rural Gloucester’s Ken Maslen said selling out of the saleyards will maintain their presence in the Gloucester area.
“We’re pretty excited,” he said.
“It’ll create growth in our business and give growth and options for the community.”
Gooch Agencies’ principal James Gooch was pleased with the large turnout.
“There were lots of spectators there to see the new routine,” Mr Gooch said.
“We had about 320 (cattle) all up.”
About 500 cattle were on display across the three businesses.
The businesses will continue to sell out of the saleyards each fortnight.
The next combined sale will be on Thursday, October 18.
Selling will begin at 11am.
