Police say at about midnight on Sunday, October 7 an International prime mover towing a low loader trailer was travelling south on Thunderbolts Way between Walcha and Gloucester. About 800 metres north of Giro Road the truck rolled whilst attempting to negotiate a right-hand bend and crashed through the Armco railing.
The driver of the truck, a 52-year-old Bingara man, died at the scene.
Officers from Manning-Great Lakes Police District established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. A report is being prepared for the information of the coroner. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact police.
Attempts were being made to salvage the truck during daylight hours on Tuesday, October 9. This will affect traffic in the area and may result in the closure of the road at various times. Traffic control will be in place, however motorists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel on Thunderbolts Way or find an alternative route.
