was held Saturday last. The first day of the tournament was mixed and men’s fourball stableford sponsored by Club Taree and Hydrahose. Golfers were playing for the prestigious Hammond Kempe Shield for men’s pairs and the Hydrahose Trophy for mixed pairs.
On the day the otherwise welcome rain deterred a few folk, but those that did turn out enjoyed themselves well enough finding conditions not as bad as it might have looked from the living room window at home perhaps. The Hammond Kempe Shield was won by Mal Brooks and Andrew Moore, who scored 44 points with Andrew’s contribution distinguished with a birdie at the second hole; what was notable was that his third shot was a “slam dunk” from 140 metres out! Steve Carr and Neihana Kidwell (43) were second a count back ahead of Shane Jennings and Ian Mills (43) themselves needing account back to come home in third place.
Best scratch score for men’s pairs was achieved by Brad Allan and Craig Allport with 36 points. The best men’s individual scores went to Nathan Gibson (40) and Steve Carr (39).
In the mixed pairs Moore Park visitor Michele Adair teamed with club captain Peter Wildblood for 43 points and a win. The best scratch score for mixed pairs went to Judy and Geoff Fuller. Pat Kristiansen and Mark Rinortner (39) were second in the nett event with Jo and Michael Stinson (38) third. The best women’s individual score was the 37 shot by Michele Adair.
Nearest to the pins were won by Michele Adair at the 1st; Kay Woolcock, Chris Martin and Rob Moore at the 4th; Holly Innes, Nathan Gibson and John Daly and the 14th; and Jo Stinson, Todd Watkin and Glenn Bayliss at the 16th. The sharpshooters award of the day went to Jo Stinson for her shot at the 16th finishing just 15 cm from the hole. The straight drives at the 18th were won by Pat Kristiansen and Graeme Styles.
