The lifter will assist with transfers of people with a disability from their wheelchairs to bed, chairs, standing frame or floor.
Community services manager Judith Wood said the lifter will ensure people who attend Taree Disability Group Service have their mobility needs met without the additional constraints of cost and transportation.
“This equipment will allow the people we support to achieve greater independence, goals and quality of life through connection with peers and participation in community,” Ms Wood said.
Samaritans Disability Group Service in Taree aims to support people with disabilities to achieve their goals and dreams through participation in social and recreational activities and events as well as day to day supports.
“The complexities of the people at Taree Disability Group Service is such that they require extensive physical manual handling for mobility, personal care, exercise and therapy supports at various times throughout the day.
“The purchase of the lifter will ensure that we can continue to provide a safe space for people to have their physical needs met when they visit our program.
“Without the support of the Lions clubs, this purchase would not have been possible,” Ms Wood said.
Samaritans provides unconditional support through services delivered throughout Newcastle, Hunter, Mid North Coast and Central Coast regions of NSW.
Over 100 services support children, youth, people living with a disability or with mental health concerns, parents, families and those who are homeless throughout these communities.
