It was crafted and designed by Dianne Ibbotson and was donated to the organisation by MidCoast Council Mayor David West.
Mayor West drew the winning ticket.
Harrington’s Kathy Braz was the winner of the raffle with all proceeds going to Taree Legacy.
Mayor West has a strong interest in recognising the sacrifices made in the World Wars.
This was reflected in his speech at this year’s Anzac Day service in Taree.
“Gallipoli was a battle we lost and many ask, why do we celebrate a defeat? A commemoration of this kind is not about victory or defeat. It is beyond those things,” Mayor West said.
“The Anzacs became legend because of who they were and how well they fought. In their struggle we saw the emergence of what has become known as the Australian spirit; mateship, courage and perseverance in the face of all odds.”
