The 100 Years of Anzac honours Australia’s involvement in the First World War and the service and sacrifice of the original Anzacs and the generations of Australian servicemen and women who have defended our values and freedoms, in wars, conflicts and peace operations over the past 100 years.

A highlight will be the premiere of a new work by 17-year-old musician Mitchell Brown written especially for the occasion.

Titled In Flanders Field, the piece is set to the words from the poem written by Lt Col. John McRae and arranged for a four-part choir and concert band.

Special guests George Hoad, Amanda Lees, Jodi Cooper, Mick Standen and the Kantabile choir will perform a number of popular selections from the WWI era with the band, as well as music from composers Gustav Holst, Kenneth Alford and Maurice Jarre. 

Mr Griffiths has arranged several pieces for this concert, including an arrangement of Waltzing Matilda that he wrote for the Australian Army Band a number of years ago.

The concert will be enjoyable for young and old, and people from across the Manning Valley and further afield are invited to join in the special event.

The band of about 35 musicians, regularly participates in Anzac Day ceremonies and other events and recently introduced an annual series of concerts for the community at various venues in the Manning.

This concert is the third in this series.

Members of the band range in age from 11 years to 70 plus and rehearse in the band room, River Street, Taree from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Mondays.

The 100 Years of Anzac is on at the Manning Entertainment Centre on Sunday October 7 at 2pm.
