Both were injured in the Pirates’ 32-0 over Macleay Valley in the final last Sunday. Kerr is battling an ankle problem while Elford damaged an eye socket.
“They’re both nodding, saying they’ll be right,’’ Old Bar co-coach Darrin Dark said.
“At this stage they’re both picked in the side and will be playing. But we have reserves and if we have to make a late call, we will.’’
The Pirates went down to Port a fortnight ago 26-12 in what Dark admitted as a below-par performance.
“It wasn’t our best – we were punished for a couple of errors we made and then we didn’t punish them when they made mistakes,’’ Dark said.
“But that’s an area we can improve.’’
The Sharks go into the match on the back of a light schedule of games in the last month. Port had the bye as minor premiers in the first week of the finals followed by their win over Old Bar in the major semi, giving them another free week when the final was decided.
Dark agrees that could work in his side’s favour.
“But they turned up to play in the semi-finals. Hopefully it’ll be our turn this Sunday,’’ Dark said.
He remains confident Old Bar’s forwards, led by Jared Wooster, Joel Dark and Kane Evans, who all played some first grade this season, can carry the day. Dark believes goal kicking fullback Joel Minihan can also have a bearing on the result. He also played first grade during the year.
“Our fullback and captain Joel Minihan also has a big role to play, as do our halves,’’ he said.
These two sides have been battling our grand finals since under 10s.
“They know each other’s game pretty well,’’ Dark said.
Old Bar’s side is: Joel Minihan; Blake Elford, Flynn Kerr, Lachlan Williams, Jake Saunders; Joseph Hinton, Tanna Hinton; Kane Evans, Daniel Cocksedge, Sam Wilkes, Joel Dark, Jared Wooster, Andrew Hills. Interchange Josh Hughes, Drey Mercy, Troy Clarke, Alex Slade, Griffin McDean, Dylan Paulson, Logan Jobson.
Old Bar needs to blot out Binge
SHUTTING down Port City’s attacking ace Nikita Binge will be a priority for Old Bar Pirates in Sunday’s Group Three women’s league tag grand final.
“The Breakers have plenty of speed and Nikita’s been scoring a lot of tries,’’ Old Bar captain-coach Lyn Eason said.
"So she's one player we're going to have to keep an eye on.’’
The Pirates are the defending premiers, but Port City remains unbeaten this season. However, Eason said it was a reasonably similar situation last year.
“The Breakers were undefeated until the major semi, then Old Bar beat them then and again in the grand final,’’ she said.
“Port will be the favourites, but I think grand finals are 50/50.’’
Eason, who this year captained the Group Three and North Coast representative league tag sides, nominated Teegan Rowsell and Taneika Landsborough as two players who can swing the match in Old Bar’s favour.
Old Bar’s squad is: Nicole Griffis, Kirstein Pearson, Mia Lyons, Tia Hinton, Teegan Rowsell, Taneika Landsborough, Talisa Eason, Thalia Simon, Natalie Pearson, Courtney Hannon, Lyn Eason, Rebecca Eason, Jenna Rowsell, Trisha Pearson, Nakita Paulson, Brie Hannon.
The game will kick off at 10.30.
