Charity work and a “deep commitment to his school” earned the student a Bishop’s Award and now the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle is looking to honour four more students and present each with $1000 that can be used for their education or faith formation.

The Bishop's Award seeks to recognise the efforts of students and young people within the diocese who have contributed to the community through their parish, church group or church agency. This may include involvement in groups or agencies such as Caritas, Youth Ministries, St Vincent de Paul Society, Mini Vinnies or similar church groups and also includes contributions made within parishes.
The Bishop's Award comprises three categories:
- Students in year 7 and 8
- Students in year 9 and 10
- Students in year 11 and 12
- Young people (those who have completed year 12 and are 25 years of age or less)
Each successful applicant will receive $1000 which may contribute towards their education or faith formation by assisting them to attend events such as World Youth Day, Diocesan Youth Retreat or music ministry. Each successful applicant will also receive a Certificate of Recognition from Bishop Bill. There is a maximum award pool of $10,000 for the 2018 awards.
Applications close February 8, 2019 and forms are available from Catholic schools in the Manning, Great Lakes and Gloucester regions.
