Music lovers are in for a treat at Killabakh’s ‘Day in the Country’ this year with the re-forming of popular local group the Red Cedar Band after a three year break.

The band was a fixture at ‘Day in the Country’ for many years and is back to christen the newly built Entertainment Shed.
Red Cedar Band was formed more than 20 years ago by a group of friends sitting around a bonfire in Killabakh. Their infectious and easy-going country/bush/folk style of music has been enjoyed across the region at a host of dances, weddings, and private functions.
Sharing the stage with Red Cedar Band will be another popular local band The Workshop, well known for putting a raucous edge on many a well-known musical style. The Workshop regularly perform at a number of local venues and festivals and some band members have shared the stage with Aussie icons such as Midnight Oil, INXS, Cold Chisel, Bill Chambers and Jenny Morris.
Killabakh’s new Entertainment Shed has been a major focus for the local community over the past year. Funded by the community and built entirely of voluntary labour, totalling close to 1000 hours on completion. The unique rustic timber building was the brainchild of local resident and Red Cedar Band foundation member, Garry Spicer.
“I’m proud to have been associated with this project and I’ve enjoyed how the planning and construction of the building has really brought the community together. This shed will be a great asset for our little community,” Garry said.
Killabakh’s ‘A Day in the Country’ will be held on Saturday, September 1, 10am – 3pm, just 16km north of Wingham along Comboyne Road.
A great day out for all the family is assured with over 60 stalls, the Scarecrow Competition with prizes donated by Bunnings Taree, an art exhibition featuring top quality works, activities for the young ones in the Kids Fun Zone, delicious food, plenty of seating and live music performed throughout the day including The Workshop and the Red Cedar Band, reformed for one last show!
Entry is by gold coin donation which provides the visitor with the day’s program of events as well as the opportunity to win a raffle prize.
