The Coopernook Rural Fire Brigade are in the predicament of having to once again appeal to the people from the local community to come forward and join the brigade.

With the warmer season just around the corner, now is the time to join and be trained in preparation for the summer months which brings with it the threats of bushfires.
Free training and fire gear are provided and the opportunity to advance is there. As little or as much time given to the brigade is appreciated and a chance to work with a great crew that are only doing what they do for their community.
Some training to be qualified is done online and you must be at least 16 years old.
If you have any questions about joining, you can contact Captain Sherrie on 0427 646 591 or the secretary on Joanne on 0488 660 769 or see them at the Coopernook Fire Station on every third Thursday of every month from 5pm.
If anyone anywhere has thought about joining any one of our local brigades just contact them. They will be very happy to talk to you and explain what is required.
The brigades are already busy with controlled burns, fires and training.
Burning advice
Just a reminder that you must notify your neighbours 24 hours prior to burning. You must notify your local fire control centre 24 hours before burning on 1300 643 262 (Mid Coast). And there are things that cannot be burnt.
For advice on constructing a safe pile to burn you can visit your local fire brigade.
Training day
Coopernook Rural Fire Service station hosted the Advanced Firefighter course for hydraulics. “Everyone enjoyed themselves and they all learnt a lot,” a spokesperson for the brigade said. “Also special thanks to the catering crew for the great feed. You guys do a great job looking after all us firefighters so big thanks to you.”
Save the date
The Lansdowne School will be holding its Grandparents Day on Wednesday, September 19.
This is a fun day to invite grandparents to the school. There will be performances by students and a morning tea to share. More details will be provided closer to the date.
Medical students visit
The Lansdowne School will have medical students from University of Newcastle Rural Health visiting next Friday, August 17.
The medical students will be showing the students what to expect if they need to go to hospital. They do this by getting the students to bring a teddy or favourite stuffed toy to school and using these as patients.
The medical students will also be running a session on basic first aid for kids.
As this event has been organised in conjunction with the Children’s University, students are able to bring their Learning Passports and have them stamped.

Lansdowne School students who received their awards at the school assembly were as follows.
Class K/1/2: Student of the week is Ebony Bain for a great start to term 3.
Class awards to Clayton Radley for an awesome attitude towards school and Charlee Smith for a welcome to Lansdowne Public School.
The Fast Maths award to Kade Currie for always trying his best and the artist award to Isabella Graham for her “Spiral Art”.
Class 2/3/4: Student of the week is Thomas Newman for his big steps towards acceptable behaviour in the classroom.
The Fast Maths award to Luke Williams for a great start for term 3 and to Theo Huber for his progress in Fast maths.
Class 5/6: Student of the week award to Callan Wright for maturing behaviour – well organised.
Class awards to Brendan James for excellent comprehension skills and Shataeya Bell for her organisational skills are excellent.
Fast Maths award to Connor Potts and Casey Fletcher for both Leading the top 100.
The Gold award was received by Callan Wright for achieving his second Gold Award.
