Many riders have already nominated with some travelling from Queensland to compete for the coveted Kiwarrak Buckle.
This is the prize awarded for completing an 84 kilometre trek in the Kiwarrak Cup.
Strict vetting guidelines ensures the well-being of every horse, as they have to firstly be deemed fit enough to compete, be deemed fit enough to continue after completing the first leg and then arrive back at the end with no lameness or other issues.
In addition to the cup, a 42 kilometre intermediate ride, 20 kilometre and 10 kilometre social rides will be held.
The social rides have garnered interest as a way to build up to a longer ride.
The intermediate ride will be the first of the carnival followed by the social rides.
The Kiwarrak Cup will start at 5am on the second day.
The second intermediate ride will follow at 7am before the last 20 kilometre social ride at 10am.
Tinonee Rural Fire Service will provide assistance alongside an army of volunteers across the weekend.
Last year’s cup winner Gil Stevenson completed the trek on horse Thalaba Touch O Gold in four hours and 55 minutes.
The first ride was held in 2002 where 85 competitors tackled the course in Kiwarrak State Forest.
Meanwhile, local rider Jan Wade was awarded the 10000 kilometre distance award by NSW Endurance Riders Association.
It was presented to her by zone six president Ralph Turnbull.
Jan’s results were derived from endurance rides more than 80 kilometres in length.
