This will beat the previous record of $22,000 set last year. The club has now raised more than $100,000 for Can Assist in the last five years since the cup has been played.
An auction of sporting memorabilia and other goods held at the Taree Leagues and Sport Club after the football raised more than $19,000. This included a $1000 donation from the the leagues club.
The gate for the match was around $2800.
"That was a little bit down on last year. But Wingham doesn’t have an under 18s this year and that takes a fair chunk out,’’ Taree City secretary Tanya Bridge – Kristylea’s mum, said.
A St George jumper and tickets to a corporate box was the big ticket item at the auction, realising $3000. An autographed Sydney Roosters jumper went for $1500.
Specially designed shirts for the day also proved popular, with 153 sold.
Gary Bridge, Kristylea’s dad, described the response as ‘unbelievable.’
“It just shows the generosity of this community,’’ he said.
“The support is tremendous.’’
