Happy memories and thankful reflections on her loving extended family, community organisations and professional support were uppermost in her mind as she celebrated her 100th birthday with a beautiful cake for the residents at Bushland Place and visiting dignitaries.
A big family celebration was also held two weeks earlier.
Doris Jean Tickle (nee McGregor) is the fifth child born to Louisa and David McGregor at their North Boambee property on July 15, 1918.
She comes from a pioneering family who were instrumental in much of the development of Coffs Harbour in the early days.
Doris married Harry Tickle at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Coffs Harbour, in 1938.
They lived in Coffs Harbour, Tamworth (where their two children were born), Swansea and Sydney.
They moved to Old Bar in 1994 to live in a self-care villa in Banyula Village, a part of the Bushland Health Group.
Doris has survived her husband by more than 21 years and continued to live in Banyula Village until February 2017.
She now lives in Bushland Place, Taree, where she continues to receive the support of her daughter, Jean, son-in-law Bill and son David.
To mark her milestone birthday, Doris received congratulatory letters from the Queen, Governor General Peter Cosgrove, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, the deputy prime minister and local members of government.
Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie and MidCoast Council mayor David West were among the guests at the Bushland Place celebrations.
“It’s an amazing achievement of a wonderful life and a wonderful family,” said Dr Gillespie.
