Take, for instance, climate change. Now, anyone with a shred of common sense knows this is the real deal. So obviously that doesn’t include blockheads like Tony Abbott or anyone silly enough to vote One Nation.

But the way we figure this is that the world is getting warmer (hence the title, global warming), so we might as well make the best of it.

Earlier this year we decided we needed a challenge. Nothing too strenuous of course, but nevertheless, something that would be out of the norm. 

So for what ever reason we decided that we’d dive into the ocean every month of this year. Of course, when when we decided on this course of action it was January. It was hot. Diving into the Pacific wasn’t a real big deal.

However, as summer gave way to winter (from what we can work out we skipped autumn, thanks to climate change) it did become a bit of a deal.

Never-the-less, this correspondent was resolute. The Sunday before last, we made the pilgrimage to Crowdy Head to get our July swim out of the way. We can report that for July, Crowdy Head was reasonably busy, with a smattering of family groups enjoying the day out. There were kids kicking footys around, people walking dogs, others collecting shells. Bravely, this correspondent entered the water. It was cool, but certainly not enough to worry a brass monkey. We’re not saying we spent a long time paddling with the dolphins, but we were in there long enough to get what’s left of our hair wet.

So that’s July out of the way. We have a couple of weeks now to prepare for August. It’ll be a test, but we’re sure we’ll get there.

We thought our status as an all weather, surf diving into ironman would afford us some type of celebrity status at this place of employment. So we strode into work the day after our July surf swim expecting adulation from our colleagues, given that we’re now a swimmer for all seasons.

“So, how was your weekend,’’ Editor Bell asked as we wandered to our work station.

“Fine, went out to Crowdy yesterday for a swim,’’ we answered as nonchalantly as we could muster.

Editor Bell  (EB) was nonplussed. Actually, we don’t really know if she was nonplussed, because we have no idea what it means, but it sounds pretty impressive.

“You went for a swim? It’s an amazing world,’’ EB finally offered.

“Not that many years ago you were no good thing to even have a shower every month. Now you're diving into the surf in winter.’’

And she’s right. Next stop August. Crowdy here we come.
