In its 53rd year the competition continues to find young women living in regional areas who are interested in embarking on a journey of personal development.
Any young women aged 18 to 24 can enter the competition which is a perfect opportunity to improve public speaking and overall presentation skills.
Showgirl coordinator, Val Weller explained some of the benefits of entering the competition.
“You can meet like-minded women, fine tune skills for interviews, make friends and connect within the community and enhance self-development,” she said.
The process for each contestant includes submitting an application form, attending an afternoon tea and sitting an interview with a panel of judges.
The winner of the competition may receive the opportunity to attend the next level of competition.
Samantha Hamilton, who was named 2017 Taree Showgirl on October 7, 2017 said “Being Taree Showgirl means representing your local community, especially your agricultural community and showcasing it at a State level.
“I aim to inspire and encourage youth to become more involved with agriculture as well as bringing into light different ideas about sustainable and organic farming in our broader community.
“I believe if I can change even one person’s mind about the importance of sustainable farming and the importance of the survival and coexistence of the industry, then I have done my role justice.”
