Currey will play from the bench in tomorrow’s clash against Wauchope at the Jack Neal Oval.
“Kyle gives us that bit of extra experience,’’ Taree City captain-coach Matt Everitt said.
Everitt is the elder statesman in the youthful Taree side. He said Currey will balance the ledger somewhat
“Kyle’s around my age. But after us there's a gap in ages to the other players. Even though we have a number of players who came into first grade when they were 18, it’s still good to have another experienced player to call on,’’ he said.
While he is primarily a back rower, Currey can also fill one of the three quarter positions.
In another plus second rower Michael Peacey will return after missing the last two matches. He’ll add further depth to the Taree bench.
A loss to Old Bar last week drops Taree to fifth, still with a five point buffer over Port Macquarie.
Everitt said he expects to field much the same side that went down to Old Bar 16-6 last week. He was pleased with the effort the Bulls put in, but agreed the execution needs some work.
Centre-hooker Jake Lauder is unavailable due to touch football commitments.
“That’s a shame, because he had his best game for the club last week,’’ Everitt said.
The Blues sit in equal second with Wingham and were comfortable winners over Taree in the first round, where centre Beau White scored three tries.
White looms as a major threat to Taree’s rookie three-quarter line again tomorrow.
