It was an excellent evening of good food, good fun, and good fellowship.
As the board of the club will be remaining the same for the next year, no official change-over of positions was required. The focus of the evening was to highlight the highs and lows of the past year and to acknowledge the work and dedication of the members of the club for what they have been able to achieve.
Past District Governor Ian Jackson and his wife Barbara were in attendance together with Assistant District Governor Murray Difford.
There were many notable club events, both work and social, during this past year including:
- Science and Engineering Challenge.
- Dinners on the town.
- Mystery car trial.
- Monthly book shed.
- Provision of pallets of books to Donations in Kind for distribution to overseas countries.
- India Project.
- Sleeping bags for the Homeless project.
- Club donations totaling $34,328
- Club barbecues
- Christmas ham raffles
- Community barbecues
- Scholarships to Kylie Neilson, Brock Van Kampen and Connor Armstrong to support them in their tertiary studies.
The crowning moment of the evening was the presentation of the coveted Paul Harris Awards to two of long standing and dedicated members, Michael Byrne and Ian Cahill.
When a person is recognised as a Paul Harris Fellow, they are presented with a certificate signed by the Rotary International President and the Chairman of the Trustees of The Rotary Foundation, and a lapel pin. This usually recognises outstanding commitment to the club or the community.
The Rotary theme for 2017-2018 was “Rotary making a Difference” and as a club, Taree North members should be very proud in knowing that they did their very best to demonstrate this throughout the year.
Whilst the number of members may be small, they have a large and generous heart and this should hold them in good stead as they acknowledge and support the 2018-2019 theme “Be the Inspiration.”
Congratulations and well done Taree North.
Club members are now looking forward to another successful under the leadership of president Adam Scarff.
