TAREE Wildcats slumped to a second defeat in four days when thrashed 7-0 by Port United in a Football Mid North Coast Premier League clash at Port Macquarie on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats were upset 4-3 by Camden Haven last weekend. Tuesday night’s round five game was deferred because of Port’s commitments in the FFA Cup.

United’s form had been unconvincing going into the match however, they turned that around. The home side took a stranglehold of the game when leading 3-0 at the break and continued to punish the Wildcats in the second half.
Harry Gordon scored a hat-trick for United with Jack Pilgrim, Simon Granfield and Elliott Breaks also finding the back of the net. An own goal contributed to Taree’s miserable night.
United made it a double by winning reserve grade 2-0.
Taree has now dropped to fourth on the ladder in first grade and sixth in reserves. The Wildcats head up the highway again on Saturday to play Port Saints in what will be a vital game in both grades.
