The PCYC Showcase held in Taree at the start of June raised $10,000, with PCYC NSW CEO Dominic Teakle promising to match that figure.
The fundraising showcase was organised by Stacey Lee Entertainment with assistance from PCYC Taree, and was designed to give young performers and creatives an opportunity to perform and share their talents with the community.
“The CEO could see how much work we were putting into it and said he would double it,” said Stacey.
About 220 people packed into PCYC Taree to be entertained by singers, dancers, musicians and to meet and see work by some young artists who then auctioned their works.
For Stacey, organising the event was a way to give back to PCYC Taree, where she spent much of her youth learning gymnastics with Mrs Doreen Rayward-Wilson (known as Mrs R).
She said her time there, and the influence of Mrs R, played a huge role in the person she is today.
“I want to support the PCYC to see it into the future. My belief is in our youth being our future and more needs to be done to facilitate options for them.”
Stacey said she was ecstatic to learn how much had been raised and to share it with the young people involved.
The PCYC NSW CEO had been invited to attend the showcase but was unable to attend. Instead, a few days prior to the concert, promised to match the funds raised.
Planning and organisation of the showcase, which was part of the Manning Winter Festival, began early this year.
Musician Jake Davey assisted in promotion and fundraising. He gave away a night of entertainment at the winner’s house and also did all the videography to promote the show.
