Kerry Williams, a registered Playback Theatre Practitioner, has lived in Wingham for the past three years and said she has seen a need for this improvised theatre form locally.
“People can expect to learn improvisation games and have some fun,” she said.
Kerry hopes the one day workshops are just the start of a local shift towards Playback Theatre.
She certainly intends to have a company up and running in the not too distant future putting on performances for local communities.
In a Playback Theatre performance four actors and a musician are joined by a facilitator who interacts with the audience.
Audience members are encouraged to share their true stories and the actors and musician improvise to play the story back to the audience.
“It becomes about connection with other people,” said Kerry.
What started in the USA in 1975 has spread throughout the world with Kerry being involved in Playback Theatre in Australia and New Zealand for more than 30 years.
Kerry is currently the vice president of the International Playback Theatre Network.
Workshop tickets cost $50 for full-time workers and $30 concession. To register email Kerry at winghamplayback@gmail.com or phone 0434 2111 198. Bookings essential.
