It is to be called Mount Stickity Stack following the poll closure at 9am on Sunday, June 3. The name secured 293 of 827 votes, convincingly defeating pre-poll favourite, Beaver Island with 188 votes.
Bree Katsamangos of Tinonee first suggested Mount Stickity Stack in a Facebook post on the Manning River Times’ page – initial response to the name was positive and so it was included as one of five put to the public vote.
Polling opened on May 30 and its creation and promotion became a catalyst for conflict in the Katsamangos’ home after Bree learned that her husband, Peter had voted for another name.
“I’m sorry to say my own husband voted for Beaver Island, our divorce is now pending,” Bree said.
Bree revealed the poll also tested the loyalty of her family and friends.
“I must confess I made a shameless bid for votes amongst family and friends, pulling on heart strings with desperate pleas about this potentially being my life’s greatest achievement.
“My sisters voted Gomer and Groot Island, but my mother came through, helping to secure this most prestigious win.
“I also had a number of friends who voted Mount Stickity Stack out of sheer loyalty, despite thinking the name is absurd.
It’s moments like these that show you who your real friends are and these are the people I’ll remember in my last will and testament.

Bree said she was “honoured to have named our temporary island”.
“I will be greatly saddened when Mount Stickity Stack meets the next flood. The island’s light will burn brief, but bright.”
Bree said she would now focus her attention on the crisis talks with her husband, and is appealing for community guidance.
“To divorce, or not to divorce? That is the question,” Bree said.
“The community wisely chose Mount Stickity Stack, so I’d love their help with this one!” she laughed.
